We are responsible for developing policies and the ICO’s approach to the Freedom of Information Act and...
With new developments and advances in technology continually impacting on data protection, we develop policy...
Our work is split into two main areas; Freedom of Information and Data Protection. These are the two main strands that run through the work of the ICO as a whole. And it is our job to anticipate future developments in these areas and to set the policies that will meet the challenges of tomorrow and ensure that personal information is protected and that public information is accessible.
As the pace of change is fast with new advances and innovations in technology constantly presenting new challenges, we always need to be one step ahead. Our work is extremely varied and involves developing policy, monitoring the progress of legislative proposals, liaising with those working on the proposals and representing the Information Commissioner’s views.
Sharing knowledge and good practice with our counterparts around the world, we also respond to enquiries and offer guidance to organisations to ensure they are able to embrace our policies.
We value people who are interested in the way society is run and have the ability to analyse complex legislation and understand the operations of organisations across the public sector. You should also be able to rapidly assimilate and digest high volumes of information, and prioritise a busy and varied workload. As well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, you should have experience of policy formulation and drafting.
